The United Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP) and Singularity University  will be hosting two evenings of innovation, collaboration and community building in Nairobi, Kenya.  They are bringing together a mix of entrepreneurs, changemakers, designers, techies, students and anyone interested in how we can solve the Global Impact Challenge (GIC) of providing a sustainable source of Food In Emergencies.  These events are a kickoff of what they hope will be a long engagement between WFP and entrepreneurs and innovators on the African continent.

Global Impact Challenge Mixer

The mixer is open to anyone and is an opportunity to join Kenya’s innovation community in working to end hunger. Meet and mingle with other bright minds, WFP and Singularity staff, and experts.

More information on the GIC:

The GIC is a presented in collaboration by WFP and Singularity University. It is an open call for bold, transformative ideas, harnessing exponential technology to end hunger by 2030.

This year’s challenge aims to find solutions and disruptive technologies to provide sustainable access to local and nutritious food in emergencies. Anyone globally can apply, entrepreneurs, students or passionate members of the public. With almost 800 million people around the world still going hungry everyday, and one every two affected by malnutrition, the potential impact of innovation in the humanitarian sector can be huge.  I hope you will follow us and support us as we look for the brightest ideas to fight world hunger.

Winners will have a chance to develop their ideas at a Bootcamp at the WFP Innovation Accelerator in Munich this April. One winning team will also take part in a nine-week long Global Solutions Program hosted at Singularity University’s campus at NASA Research Park in Mountain View, California.

Shortlisted entries will also be considered for support and funding from the WFP Innovation Accelerator.
